The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, established by the Government of India in 1959, an internationally acclaimed institution, is noted for its contributions to fundamental and applied research. The Institute, located in a lush green forest covered land of about 250 hectares in south Chennai, has in its roll about 460 faculty members, 6000 students and 1250 administrative and supporting staff working in various departments and centers.
